There are high chances that you might have already heard the ongoing speculation regarding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) lining-up a revolutionary iPhone in 2017 in order to celebrate the tenth-anniversary of its original iPhone model. However, it’s largely unclear what this upcoming device will look like.
Fortunately, a recent credible leak regarding the next-generation iPhone model, dubbed as the iPhone 8, might just reveal how the Cupertino based-company intends to design its upcoming smartwatch device. According to DigiTimes, Apple has already decided to bypass Foxconn, its main supplier of iPhone components, in order to attain a supply of stainless steel smartphone chassis from fellow component supplier Jabil. Interestingly, this stainless-steel chassis is tipped to allow the upcoming iPhone 8 to hold together the front and rear glass panels of the smartwatch device.
For those living under a rock, the tech giant has applied a similar stainless-steel chassis for its previous-generation iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models. However, Apple is expected to go with a slightly different approach for its next-gen flagship smartphone device. The key change will include a shift from “billet milling” to implementing "metal forging."
What this means is that milling involves cutting such a chassis with an aluminum component whereas forging involves the use of extreme pressure to squeeze such a metallic chassis into its appropriate mould. The greatest benefit of applying the second method is that the stainless-steel chassis is much stronger in comparison compared to the alternate method.
Although the incorporation of such a method will not result in the upcoming iPhone 8 becoming indestructible, but it will undoubtedly enhance its durability compared to previous iPhone models. Also, the implementation of such a stainless-steel chassis will ensure that the upcoming smartphone offer users sufficient substance and style. However, it is largely unclear if the implementation of such a chassis will leave sufficient space for a larger battery-life.
Comment below and let us know how you feel about the incorporation of a metallic chassis in the upcoming iPhone 8. Stay tuned for more developments and leaks regarding Apple’s next-generation projects.
